Summer Book TAG

I love doing little book things, but suck at finding them. One of my favorite blogs () just did this Summer Book TAG. I was completely bummed because I knew I wasn’t tagged, but then I saw she tagged anyone and I just had to do it. So here it is: summer-book-tag

Number  ONE:

What book cover makes you think of SUMMER?

16070903

Fallen too Far by Abbi Glines –  I adore Abbi Glines, especially this series. For one thing the book takes place in a beach town and the two people on the cover are on the beach. Beach = summer. That’s the way it goes. Once I look at this cover I just picture myself on the beach enjoying the sun. Even the bright pink screams summer to  me. As you can probably tell by the cover (if not, there are two people making-out. Like really making out), this book is heavy in the intimate way. There are numerous sex scenes throughout these books (Abbi Glines books in general)  as it is a New Adult novel. I would only really recommend this series for 17+. Many would say 18+ but I started Abbi Glines my Junior year of high school.

Number TWO:

What book has BRIGHTENED your day?

10194514

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry – PTL has held a special place in my heart since my Junior year of high school. I lost half my house during Hurricane Sandy. It was a scary time, something I don’t like to think back on. To this day I panic at the sound of car alarms. I remember picking up PTL though. I was going crazy in my house and needed something. This book was that something. I read it until the sun went away, by candle light, then by flashlight. Over and over again I read it. It’s not a book that’s full of cuteness like Fangirl by Ranbow Rowell. There are tough issues in PTL and maybe that’s why I gravitated towards it. Ever since then I’ve been hooked to Katie McGarry and each book holds some importance to me. I really don’t know what I would do without her. Meeting her was the best day, my brightest day.

Number THREE:

Find a book with YELLOW on it.

7740225Tyger, Tyger by Kersten Hamilton – I had no books with yellow. This was the only one that I could really find that had some hello on it. Tyger, Tyger was an okay book. I still haven’t picked up the sequel because I don’t know if I’m going to continue it. But I do love the cover. I find it beautiful and I love the way it looks like a painting.

Number FOUR:

What is your favorite Summer BEACH read?992206

Tropical Kiss by Jan Coffey– This book has to be THE cutest book of all time. Back when my older sister was my age, these summer romance books would come out and Tropical Kiss was one of them. It takes place in Bermuda and there are many beach scenes. It’s the perfect book to lay and relax to in the sun.

Number FIVE:

What action book had you running for the ICE CREAM man?

penryn-end-of-days-series

Angelfall series by Susan Ee – This series is such a known one yet not at the same time. Basically the premises is that it’s been about a month or so since Angels have caused the apocalypse and now society has fallen. That’s right, ANGELS. There’s a lot of political factors that actually go on in this book. I’ve definitely sat at the edge of my seat while reading both Angelfall and World After. There are so many different reveals and basically you never know who to trust. I’ve also stuffed my face with food while reading these books because GOSH DARN IT THE FEELS ARE REAL IN ANGELFALL. It is a beautiful yet grotesque book.

Number SIX:

SUNBURN! What book has left you with a bad/painful ending?

17406183

Allegiant by the Destroyer of all Good Things (or more commonly known as Veronica Roth)- I mean, do I even have to explain why I still feel pain? Miss Destroyer here used to be my favorite author. Now her books are thrown in the back of my bookcase never to see the light of day again. I could also refer you to this lovely POST. If you have read this series, then proceeded to click that like all-caps link and it will send you to a long rant about my hatred for Allegiant. If you plan on reading this series (which you shouldn’t) then do not click said link. Also, here’s a gif that explains my reaction:

Number SEVEN:

What book gave you a HAPPY feeling when it ended?

12820360

Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson –  Oh Edenbrooke, Edenbrooke, Edenbrooke…

supernatural-awesome.jpg

No, but it really is. It doesn’t matter how many times I have read this book, I will ALWAYS be filled with this happiness that I don’t get with every book. It takes place during the 1800s (either middle or late, I can’t remember) and is about a young girl who falls in love with this man, but there is also some action and a mystery. I can’t even begin to explain my love for Edenbrooke.

Number EIGHT:

What book cover reminds you of a SUNSET?

13069935

Ask the Passengers by A.S. King – I thought of this book immediately when I saw this question. It also looks like she’s raising her hand to pick the book. I can always feel the heat of the sun on my skin when I see this cover. I think it really captures the sunset to me. Ask the Passengers is about a young girl named Astrid who struggles to break free of societies definitions. She starts questioning many aspects of her life, especially when she starts falling in love with a girl. It’s a beautifully written book and one of my favorites. More people need to read it.

Number NINE:

What is one BOOK SERIES you hope to read this summer?

disposessed-series

Beautiful and the Cursed series by Page Morgan – I’ve had The Beautiful and the Cursed sitting on my nightstand for over a month now. But every time I go to pick it up I’m either drawn to another book or an author I like just released a new one. They just sound so interesting. I mean there are gargoyles in the story. That sounds pretty cool. It’s definitely coming with me on vacation this Friday.

So there you go! I TAG anyone too who feels like doing this challenge. It really is a lot of fun. Go ahead and try it!

30 day Book Challenge: Day 10

20130819-131533.jpg

30 Day Book Challenge was started by The Chronicles of Radiya. Every day I answer something about a book (it usually ends up about two books). I thought it would be an awesome way for everyone to get to know me.

Day 10 – Favorite Classic Book

I had to read this going into my Junior year. It was one of the best books I have read for summer reading. I love everything about this book. Guy’s character is confused about everything. He loves books, loves knowledge, but knows he can’t have it. It confuses him to no point how people can just stare at some giant screen with the volume on 100. I love Fahrenheit for the fact that is represents society today. People are perfectly fine with being told what to do and what not to do. And, yes, the government,  or any cooperation really, fear knowledge to a certain degree. Not in a bad way. We as people also fear knowledge. The conversation we had last year in class was amazing. I love this book.

30 Day Book Challenge: Day 9 and a Giveaway!

**GIVEAWAY** 30 Day Book Challenge was started by The Chronicles of Radiya. Every day I answer something about a book (it usually ends up about two books). I thought it would be an awesome way for everyone to get to know me. I’m also giving away a copy!

Day 9: A Book You Thought You Wouldn’t Like But Ended Up Loving

I never actually wanted to read Spellbound. I always thought it would be a book about some girl who just keeps complaining because the boy she “loves” is ignoring her. I was so completely and undeniably wrong. Spellbound is about Emma, a girl who has faced a lot of tragedy in her life. Now she’s just looking for a way to start fresh. There are so many things I thought Emma would be: a girl who was obsessed at first sight, someone who never defended herself, and depended on the boy to be her hero. Emma did none of this. She was intrigued with Brendan, she defended herself within the first 30 pages or so, and she knew she was her own hero. Instead of falling into some weird black hole when Brandon ignored her, she fell into anger. She wanted answers. I honestly thought Spellbound was going to be some silly la la land book. I wish the synopsis represented this book better. It has action, romance, magic, and so much more. I was hooked from page 1. I have a feeling you will too. Another part I loved: I live in NYC so half the schools mentioned were real (except for Emma’s). I kept freaking out because one of them is maybe two bus rides away from my school.

Because I love this book so much, I’m giving it away! I was sent a copy from Harlequin Teen and I didn’t want to hog two of them. This contest is INTERNATIONAL.  Tell me in the comments about a book you thought you wouldn’t like and ended up loving! I’ll be using Random.Org. Right now Rafflecopter isn’t working for me.

This giveaway ends August 30th.

Day 8: Most Overrated Book

I decided not to show the cover yet… I’m definitely going to get attacked with pitch-forks and what not. I choose: TheHunger Games.

I first read The Hunger Games in the 7th grade. My sister gave it to me. It’s actually funny because I used it for a project, later on finding out you had to make a brochure telling people to visit. My conversation with the teacher went like this:

Me: I don’t know how I can do this.

Her: Oh, don’t worry. It can’t be that bad Lauren.

Me: The place is called the Capitol and they make kids fight to the death.

Her: …. Oh.

So yeah, I guess everyone wants to visit the Capitol now. I actually did I pretty good job too. But now I got off topic. It’s that I find these books horrible, but they are overrated. I hated Catching Fire and could barely get through it. All Katniss did was whine. I wanted tough-as-a-cookie Katniss back. My friends just explained to me why she had to act that way, and I get it, but it still annoyed me. And going into another HG? Seriously? I felt like it was a cop-out. Again, I understand why it had to happen, but it still annoyed me. I was speaking to another fellow blogger once at a book signing who agreed with me about the Hunger Games. He said that once you read other books you realize that it’s not this book that belongs on a pedestal, it’s still good, but not OMG amazing. This is my opinion though…

And it total copied Battle Royal which everyone should watch and read. And it actually came first. Just saying. Does anyone feel the same way?

Day 7: Most Underrated Book(s)

imagesUnknown12109772

For me, it’s not a book that’s underrated, but an author. Brenna Yovanoff is one of the favorite authors ever. I would say she’s #3 on my list. All of her books are amazing at the scary factor. She knows how to make a book addicting too. It’s surprising to me that not many people have heard of Brenna Yovanoff’s books. The Replacement was amazing, The Space Between gothic in a sense, and Paper Valentine… don’t even get me started on that book. Paper Valentine has to be my favorite. It gave me goosebumps. Books lack that nowadays. Brenna Yovanoff knows how to make a book curl-into-a-ball-and-keep-all-the-lights-on scary. How are people NOT fangirling over her books? I mean, look at those covers. They really aren’t that hard to miss. And they’re so pretty!

GO READ HER BOOKS!

*Hugs Brenna’s book and pets them* my precioussss, my dear precious books *hugs them again*

I really do love them.

Day 2: Your Favorite Series

The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness

How can you choose just ONE? It’s not humanly possible. I think I have to go with two series. The first one is definitely the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. See growing up my dad didn’t watch normal TV shows . Twin Peaks was the start of it. The X-Files though, now that show I remember watching. It got me obsessed with all things paranormal. When I read about the Lux books and found out it was about aliens? I fangirled like I never fangirled before. There aren’t many alien books out there, so when I do find one, I have to read it. Lux isn’t over yet. Origin (the 4th book) comes out this month. Origin should come out earlier after the torturous cliffhanger that was the 3rd book.  Now my second favorite series actually emotionally drained me, as it did to everyone who read them: The Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness. I never wanted to read these books. The way Patrick Ness wrote it always annoyed me. I had nothing to read one day and I decided to pick The Knife of Never Letting Go up… and I am so happy I did. These books are honestly amazing. Each title holds such an important role to the book that it belongs to. There’s action, betrayal, mind-blowing plots and so much more. Noise is one of the best points in this book. Men are able to hear everyone else’s thoughts, hence Noise. This is what Patrick Ness showed noise as:

It’s amazing. Absolutely amazing. Patrick Ness is a brilliant man. The quotes in these books? Don’t even get me started. Here are two of my favorites:

“Here’s what I think,” I say and my voice is stronger and thoughts are coming, thoughts that trickle into my noise like whispers of truth. “I think maybe everybody falls,” I say. “I think maybe we all do. And I don’t think that’s the asking.”
I pull on her arms gently to make sure she’s listening.
“I think the asking is whether we get back up again.”
― Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting Go

“Men lie, and they lie to themselves worst of all.”
― Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting Go

So those are my favorite. Have you read any of them? If not, do it.

Day 02 – A Book that you’ve Read Again and Again

I know the answer to this. It’s a book that is cute and adorable and everyone should read it.

Photo on 8-8-13 at 6.11 PM #2

That’s right: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I read Anna so many times it fell apart. I’m not even joking. I first read it three years ago when I was a freshmen in high school. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this up. Was it going to be fluff? Was Anna going to lust after St. Clair? I was so wrong.  There’s just something magical about Anna and the French Kiss. St. Clair and Anna have to over come a lot of obstacles to get together. When they finally do you can’t help but scream aw.  Don’t pass this book over.

And I really wasn’t kidding that it fell apart….
